Preparation |
Yu-Pei Shih |
Face N, erect. Heels together, toes pointing out. Fill R leg, bend slightly, and rest on it. Step to L one foot, heel first, and fill. Raise R toes slightly and turn R foot on heel inwards at 45 deg until parallel with L foot, both pointing straight ahead, feet at shoulder width. Elbows bent slightly out with back of wrists curved upward. Palms down, finger tips raised slightly but relaxed, neither stretched nor clenched. Head erect and eyes straight ahead. Shoulders and elbows are loose and chest depressed, enabling ch'i to sink to the tan t'ien. Tongue against upper palate and mouth and lips tightly closed. Mind is at ease following tranquil breathing. |

Ch'I Shih |
Inhaling slowly, raise arms with the wrists bent to shoulder height. Then mobilize ch'i and extend your fingers. Draw arms back bending elbows and again relax fingers. When your hands are near your chest, lightly take them to your side, your wrists carried as though sinking into water and your fingerips floating off. You are again in the same posture as after 1. |

Filling L leg, and sink slightly on that leg. Relax R upper body, and turn on R heel, toes slightly raised to the direct R (east). Your R foot is now at R angles to your L foot. In turning, move your waist and thigh at the same time as the foot and as you bring R hand, palm down, to the level of your armpit and L hand, palm up, parallel with your R thigh. Thus you simulate holding a ball in your R thigh. Simulate holding a ball in your hands. Your eyes follow this movement and now look directly to the R. Now fill your R leg. |

Fill L leg more, until R foot is brought to toes. At same time turn L hand over till palm is down while R palm is up. Relax L shoulder, turn R thigh to R, and turn R toes 45 deg putting R foot down, heel first, an inch further forward than before. Fill R, bent, leg. Protect with R arm, elbow down, palm facing chest, and L arm, elbow down, palm forward, midway between R wrist and elbow, but not touching. Stretch L leg and turn foot slightly in. Now facing E. |

Fill L foot, turn on R heel, and arms parallel with elbows slightly bent turn body as far as you can to back L corner. Fill R leg. Bring L palm up near rigt armpit and bringing your R hand across your chest join the fingers together, pointing downward, to resemble a hook. At same time raise L heel and turn foot sligtly to the R with entire leg while extending R 'hook' hand to R (NE) corner, relaxed not rigid. Now take big step to forward L with L foot, heel touching down first. Fill L leg and bend knee. At same time L hand, palm in, fingers up, is carried at chest level to L until your waist faces W. Now R toe is turned with R knee inward, straightening waist, and L palm is turned out and eyes folow the hand's turn and look along extended fingers of L hand. |

Turn upper body to R and fill L leg. Resting on L leg, bring R foot to the R side front and put R heel down lightly, toes up, knee bent. Relax arms and turn inward till palms face each other. Slowly bring arms closer until R palm is in front, aligned with R leg, and L palm in back by your L ribs and directly opposite R elbow. The backs of wrists are slightly bowed. |

At same time your L hand circles by L ear and chops forward. Next your L foot steps froward, heel touching first. |

Feet are now as at beginning (Step 2). Carry L hand, palm in, at level of throat and R hand at level of navel still turn to L until hands again stimulate holding ball by your L side, L hand above. Throughout movement upper body is vertical. |
